Importance of Veterinary Curriculum
We've created an innovative program that will provide our students with a broad biomedical and clinical foundation in the comparative aspects of each discipline.
The veterinary curriculum is delivered in various formats that include small- and large-group exercises, lectures, laboratory exercises, and discussions. This allows students to develop clinical skills, and work with live animals beginning in the first week. Everyone has ample opportunities to pursue individual interests in depth and to tailor their learning to meet specific needs.
Cooperation is stressed over the competition, and learning for understanding is emphasized over rote memorization. It is vital that students are viewed as future colleagues. They should consult often with their faculty mentors and make use of a wide variety of learning resources.
Faculty members work together to offer the foundation courses that comprise the majority (70%) of the veterinary curriculum. A student-faculty ratio of less than one-to-one fosters an environment in which faculty and students have frequent interactions that are stimulating and intellectually vibrant.

- Cornell veterinary students are highly successful in securing veterinary jobs, and most accept offers prior to graduation.
- Many people graduate from college and never get hired. This could be because the companies that hire them haven't been looking or they've just forgotten to check resumes.
- Most of our students choose to go into medical practice, either an internship, residency or private practice immediately after they graduate.
- Some of our graduates pursue doctorate degrees, some become veterans, and some accept job offers in private industry or with the federal government.
